To whom it may concern:

[Several dates are scribbled on the top of the letter. However, all off them are scribbled out. Eventually, in a harried hand, the word FRIDAY is scrawled, as if the writer is irritated.]

Fellow Prospects,

If you are reading this letter, I am unfortunately dead. I admit this outcome was not beyond the realm of possibility as I, Sherlock Holmes, am the world's greatest detective and only consulting detective, and in a scenario such as this I would be the most logical target.

While there are a number among you I suspect I shall not list their names. Firstly, it goes against the spirit of the exam. Secondly, all men are capable of being driven to murder. Each and every one of you harbors the capability to kill, myself included. Therefore, singling out these individuals will only serve to introduce bias in the case of my death. There is no greater enemy to logic than preconceived conclusions.

Examine with an objective eye, judge with clarity, and do not allow your emotions to cloud your perception. Remember: justice is not the ultimate goal. The truth is. My death should be but a minor distraction as there is a grander mystery to be solved.

To guide your pursuit, I submit the following observations for your perusal:
1. It is highly likely that the organization behind our kidnappings possesses means to transverse dimensional boundaries. Evidence:
A. Mr. Shuu and Mr. Okosan come from an alternate Earth in which birds are the ruling species and humans are borderline extinct. Examine your timelines among each other and compare the data. I guarantee that there are discrepancies.

B. Ms. Vivienne's office holds a collection of anthropology books on a variation of Earth culture and a notebook on prototype android designs, I believe. I highly recommend reading these, should you be able to lay your hands upon them. A thorough understanding the crime scene is vital to accurately predicting past and future events. Context matters. It could determine your future chances of survival.
2. I am loathe to draw conclusions without a thorough examination of all possibilities. Therefore, I urge you all to further experiment with the power. The reasons for this interest are as follows:
A. On Saturday morning, a blackout was experienced. During the duration of the blackout, two voices with static interference were heard. They identified themselves as "1" and "2." Once power was restored, the voices disappeared. Our spirit channeler, Maya, could not connect with these voices. However, do keep in mind that our supernatural abilities - mine included - have been stymied.

B. 1 and 2 identified themselves as students who have been trapped in Fayflower for months, their requests for help hailing no response. They did not recognize our group and answered that the campus was in the middle of the city.

C. 1 and 2 said they were in the shed by the pool. They maintained this statement even when a group entered the same shed. They could not see our group and we could not see them. Are there conditions in which we could ensure otherwise?

D. Ms. Vivienne's ID granted access to the shed, whereupon an array of colored buttons were discovered. The area would be worth further investigating and, with Ms. Vivienne's cooperation, the applicability of her ID should be tested. I also recommend testing the limitations of the facilities without power.
3. As to the identities of our captors, here are the points of interest that necessitate further investigation:
A. Oswald Hale is Ms. Vivienne's superior and answers to a higher authority.

B. Ms. Vivienne was not aware of all her responsibilities as administrator. This indicates that she was a recent installation into the exam process.

C. "Cynthia Garibaldi" and "Jax." These two portraits were found in the pool shed. They could be assumed to be persons of interest.

D. Task completions play some role in the exam process. Successful completions result in rewards that may, at times, seem odd. Obeying the rules is vital to the pass/fail process. I recommend bending them as far as you can - but do try not to break them.

E. Administrators such as Mr. Hale were capable of inducing group-wide psychological effects (i.e. causing the resurfacing of painful memories.) The means of how they've achieved this is unclear.

F. Ms. Kasumi Toyama disappeared on a Monday due to "sickness," one day after our arrivals. Next Tuesday evening, Mr. Flat Escardos found a notebook with the name "Kasumi Kojima" written in it. Given the multidimensional nature of our circumstances, I highly recommend searching for traces of former students.

G. Ms. Kaoru Seta disappeared as the higher-ups possessed interest in her potential. She returned a few days later but possesses no little memory of what had happened to her.
I fear I have little answers to give, only questions. The rest I leave in your hands. Whether you are capable or not matters not. Unraveling the mysteries of this academy is, in my opinion, the true exam. I do hope you will all rise to the challenge. Regardless of the results, I wish to say that it was my pleasure to have worked with you, though my time was regrettably short. I pray for a favorable conclusion and for providence to shine a guiding light on your dark path.

Sherlock Holmes.
